Thai Workers’ Center

On August 2nd, 2023, Thai CDC marked 28 years of #freedom for over six dozen Thai workers who were liberated from the notorious makeshift garment factory in El Monte, CA where they were held against their will slaving away over sewing machines producing clothing for major manufacturers and retailers for years by holding a Press Conference and Grand Opening of the first Thai Worker Center in the nation. The Thai Worker Center was long overdue as Thai CDC has been addressing labor trafficking and worker exploitation for almost thirty years. Yet, these serious violations of fundamental human rights still persist. The Center was made possible by funding from the California Community Foundation (CCF), Los Angeles County Department of Public Health(DPH), and Liberty Hill Foundation(LHF) and aims to help exploited workers receive services, representation, and #advocacy to ultimately achieve #justice. The program consisted of remarks of support and solidarity from our elected representatives, funders, government agency and worker center representatives, and workers themselves.
