THAI COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTER AWARDED $1M IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ITS THAI TOWN MARKETPLACE

The Thai Community Development Center is honored to announce that it will receive $1 million for its Thai Town Marketplace project as part of Congress’ $1.5 trillion omnibus appropriations bill (H.R. 2471) that was signed into law by President Biden on March 15, 2022.

The recently passed spending package funds federal operations for the remainder of fiscal year 2022, and includes $1M in funds to support construction and startup costs for Thai CDC’s Thai Town Marketplace. The $1M grant came at the request of U.S. Representative Adam Schiff who represents California’s 28th Congressional District which includes Thai Town in Los Angeles. Thai CDC is honored to be one of the community organizations chosen by Congressman Schiff to receive federal funding to support its Thai Town Marketplace and the many benefits it will provide to the members of the East Hollywood community in Los Angeles.
Congressmember Schiff said, “The Thai Town Marketplace will be much more than an exciting new retail venue – it’s going to be a launching pad for budding entrepreneurs, a pillar of support for the local community, and a world-class cultural destination for Angelenos and visitors alike.  It has been an honor to fight for and deliver $1 million for the Thai Community Development Center so this wonderful project can finally open its doors and L.A.’s Thai community can continue leading the revitalization of this neighborhood.”
Overjoyed, Thai CDC Executive Director, Chancee Martorell, said, “On behalf of the Thai Community Development Center and the Thai community we serve, I wish to express our most heartfelt gratitude for this extraordinary investment in our community and in the lives, dreams and aspirations of Thai immigrant entrepreneurs who will launch their American dreams on the opening day of the Thai Town Marketplace. Thank you for your confidence in our community, in the strength, determination and resourcefulness of ordinary people, and in the power of dreams,” said Chanchanit Martorell, Executive Director of Thai CDC. “We recognize that this contribution was made through the hard work and sacrifices of the American people, and we pledge that it will be invested directly into the building of America through the hard work and sacrifices of our newest Americans.  Thank you once again for helping us make the Thai Town Marketplace a reality that will continue generating new businesses, jobs and economic growth for generations to come.”
