The Thai Town Community is Empowered!

Recent concerns of crime, vandalism, homelessness and blight along our 6-block stretch of Hollywood Boulevard have prompted the community to convene in an emergency meeting on the afternoon of August 12 — immediately following the “Clean for Mom” beautification event — at Bamboo House on Hollywood and Edgemont, where over 40 Thai Town stakeholders met with Thai CDC staff and Royal Thai Consul General Tanee Sangrat. The group also voiced their concerns on the responsiveness of local government, re-visiting the establishment of a Business Improvement District, and shared ideas on how to emphasize Thai cultural aesthetics in the neighborhood, from decorative crosswalks to store facades to cultural statues to tuk-tuk transportation. The group also learned more details about our Great Streets Pop-Up project on Saturday, September 23 which will visually transform Thailand Plaza for a day and educate the public on pedestrian and vehicular safety along the boulevard. The community also plans to continue its engagement with a follow-up meeting at Hollyview Apartments on the morning of August 25.
