Yesterday, over 100 members of the Build Better LA Coalition, including construction trades workers, residents, housing advocates, and developers held a press conference to announce the collection of nearly 100,000 signatures from City of Los Angeles residents who support the Build Better LA initiative going on the November 2016 ballot.
A group of workers delivered several dozen boxes of petitions containing the signatures directly to the City Clerk’s office. The measure would have needed approximately 62,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, but volunteers collected nearly 100,000 signatures total. Volunteers reached thousands of voters through door-to-door outreach, at storefronts, and around transit hubs.
Speakers at the press event included Rusty Hicks of the LA County Federation of Labor; Laura Raymond with ACT-LA; Lyn Sanders with SMART Sheet Metal Local Union 105, Jose Eduardo Sanchez with KIWA, and Reverend Oliver Buie of Holman United Methodist Church.
The Build Better LA Coalition will continue to speak to every voter in the City of LA to bring a shared vision of healthy, accessible housing and good, local jobs through election day in November.
