On May 16, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) hosted its 23rd Annual Awards Gala from 6 p.m to 9:30 p.m at the Washington Hilton. The annual APAICS Awards Gala Dinner is the premier event in Washington, D.C. to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The evening honors Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) leaders, both current and pioneers, and recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that continue to politically empower the AAPI community. The 2017 honorees are Chancee Martorell, Randall Park, and Verizon Communications. CBSN News Correspondent and 2016 Vice-Presidential Debate Moderator Elaine Quijano served as the Gala’s Mistress of Ceremonies and Award-Winning recording artist, Larissa Lam served as the National Anthem singer. The keynote speaker was US Senator Cory Booker.
“Our 23rd Annual Awards Gala is the primary event that APAICS hosts where community leaders, business leaders, and the largest gathering of AAPI local, state, and federal elected officials and appointees come together to celebrate and honor our community’s accomplishments. Chancee Martorrell and Randall Park have been trailblazers throughout their careers. They have paved the way for our community to be represented in their respective industries. Verizon has been a constant supporter of APAICS for over 12 years. They believe in our mission to empower AAPIs in politics,” said Floyd Mori, CEO of APAICS.
