On November 24, 2013, the Thai Community Development Center’s Small Business Program hosted a Small Business Reunion Party at Darabar Secret Thai Cuisine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Thai Town, Los Angeles. The reunion attracted close to 50 attendees and featured a series of workshops, live entertainment, games and Thai food for former Thai CDC E-Commerce and Entrepreneurial Training Program workshop clients. Special guest performances by Suntarapon Fan Club LA and SuperTree offered the perfect ambiance for the crowd who was dancing and singing along to new and traditional songs from Thailand.
The workshops covered topics in International Trade and the new Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.” Guest speaker Won Kim, Business Counselor from the Koreatown Youth and Community Center, offered insight on the import and export business, allowing participants to learn how they can expand their business in the global market; while Thai CDC’s own Amy Luengaalamm gave a workshop on Healthcare Reform and how the Affordable Care Act affects small business owners and health coverage for their employees.
Following the workshop, participants exchanged business cards. Many returning clients shared updates and small business success stories since participating in Thai CDC’s E-Commerce and ETP classes.
Thai CDC’s small business program intends to host more events in the future. By connecting more Thai entrepreneurs and small business owners with each other, we intend to develop a thriving Thai-American business network in Los Angeles.
